Bradley C. Hosmer was born in 1937 and in 1959 graduated from the United States Air Force Academy, the top graduate in the Academy's first graduating class. He was then named a Rhodes Scholar and graduated from Oxford University in 1962 with a Master's degree in International Relations. He began his pilot training and in 1963 became a pilot training instructor. He saw combat service in Vietnam and then served in a variety of staff positions. Rising through the ranks, Bradley Hosmer was promoted to Brigadier General in 1982. He worked as Director of Plans, Pacific Air Forces, was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and in 1986 became President of National Defense University. From there Hosmer served as the USAF Inspector General before becoming the first Academy graduate to return to USAFA to become Superintendent (1991 to 1994). Lieutenant General Hosmer retired from the Air Force in 1994 and joined the civilian workforce as a consultant specializing in national security operations and policy development and education and training leadership. Hosmer is currently the Regent Chair of Academic/Student Affairs and Research Committee, the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
