Hide Profile

Campbell was one of several people appointed by Jefferson Davis to meet as a peace commission with President Lincoln and U.S. Secretary of State Seward.

While not approving of Lincoln's terms, presented at the meeting on January 1, 1865, Campbell felt they could be the basis for further negotiations. This letter was a report of that meeting.

From the description of Campbell, John A., letter, 1865 Mar. 6. (University of Texas Libraries). WorldCat record id: 26987536
