Robert A. Kinzie was assistant superintendent of the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Company from 1900-1905. He was also general superintendent of the Alaska Mexican Gold Mining Company (Treadwell), the Alaska United Gold Mining Company, and Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company.

Robert A. Kinzie was born at Fort Independence, Mass., Jan. 15, 1870. He graduated from the University of California in 1897 with a degree in civil engineering. He was assistant superintendent of the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Company from 1900-1905 and from 1905-1914, general superintendent of the Alaska Mexican Gold Mining Co. (Treadwell), Alaska United Gold Mining Company, and Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company. He married Veronica Kennedy of San Francisco in 1901 and they had five children: Robert A. Kinzie, Jr., David Hunter Kinzie, Veronica K. Kinzie, Eugenia K. Kinzie Moore, and Elizabeth Kinzie Buckley. After leaving Alaska, Mr. Kinzie worked as a consulting engineer in Mexico and for several mining firms in California, including Engels Copper Company, Virginia Mines Corporation, and Santa Cruz Portland Cement Company. Robert Kinzie was a founder of the American Society for Testing and Materials and served on the Council of the Northern California District from 1930-1955. In 1950 he was advanced to the Legion of Honor of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers in recognition of fifty years of service.

He married Veronica Kennedy of San Francisco in 1901 and they had five children: Robert A. Kinzie, Jr. (born in Douglas, Alaska and also a mining engineer), David Hunter Kinzie, Veronica K. Kinzie, Eugenia K. Kinzie Moore, and Elizabeth Kinzie Buckley. Robert Kinzie left Alaska with his family in 1914. He worked as a consulting engineer in Mexico and for several mining firms in California, including Engels Copper Co., Virginia Mines Corp., Santa Cruz Portland Cement Co., and others. Robert A. Kenzie died in 1955 in San Francisco, California.
