Confederate soldier; b. in Alexandria, Va.; an 18 year-old farmer when he enlisted in G Company, 59th Virginia Volunteer Infantry, which disbanded in Jan. 1862; later mustered into O Company, 62nd Virginia Volunteer Infantry; spent two weeks as a prisoner of war before being exchanged in 1862; later served in H Co. of the 18th Virginia Cavalry.
