Mary Elizabeth Lomen lived in Nome with her husband Alfred Lomen during World War II. After the war, they spent summers in Nome working in the family business and winters in Seattle. In July 1954, they moved to Fairbanks until fall 1995, when they relocated to Seattle. In Fairbanks, she was a member of the Library Board in territorial days, chairwoman of the United Way campaign, appointed by Gov. Wally Hickel to serve on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, and a 4-H leader. She also held a variety of offices in the Alaska Republican Party, elected as chairman of the Central District in 1960 and serving as Party secretary from 1967-1970 and then treasurer from 1974-1983. She also served as Alaska State Chairman of the Women's Division of the Republican National Finance Committee.
