The Means family, of Ashland, Ky. was prominent in the iron, coal, banking and railroad industries. Among its members were John Means and his wife, Harriet Hildreth Perkins Means. They had a son, E.C. (Ellison Cooke), and a daughter, Eliza Isabella, who married William B. Seaton.
