Middletown Monthly Meeting was established out of Falls Monthly Meeting by Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1683. This meeting was known as "Neshaminy" until 1706. In 1827, at the time of the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Middletown Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1862, and its members were attached to Falls Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). Middletown Monthly Meeting (Hicksite), which became a united meeting by affiliation with Burlington and Bucks Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1947, was the forerunner of the present-day Middletown Monthly Meeting of Friends.
