Jesuit priest and Boston College faculty member and administrator.
Murphy, born in Newton, Massachusetts, to Irish-born parents, was ordained (1934), earned an STL degree at Weston College (1935), studied in Wales and Ireland (1935-1939), and earned his PhD in Irish Studies from the National University of Ireland. He taught at Boston College (1939 to 1970) and was appointed to the position of Business Manager (1958). Following his retirement in 1970, Murphy taught as a Visiting Lecturer at Boston State College (1970-1974). He resided at St. Mary's Jesuit Community at Boston College until his death in 1985.
