James Wickersham was a lawyer, judge, and author; delegate to Congress from Alaska, 1909-1921 and 1931-1933.

Edmund Schuster was born in Hirschegg Austria Sept. 15, 1935. He began his education in Hirschegg and apprenticed in a family inn and trade school. Before coming to Alaska he worked as a coal miner in Germany, a uranium miner in Canada and as a firefighter and carpenter. In 1964 he moved to Anchorage where he received a bachelor's degree in economics and history, a masters degree in industrial relations and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Oregon. He taught sociology at the University of Alaska Anchorage until 1990. Skier, custom home builder and marathon racer, Schuster also spent over 1000 hours from 1975 to 1983 transcribing the daily journals of Judge James Wickersham and creating indexes and inventories for many of his letters.
