Gerald Monroe Rafshoon was born on January 11, 1934 in New York, New York. He graduated from the University of Texas, Austin in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1958. After his military service, he worked as a national advertising manager for 20th Century Fox, first as Southeastern advertising and publicity manager in Atlanta, 1959 to 1962, and then as national advertising manager in New York, 1962 to 1963. In 1963 he founded Gerald Rafshoon Advertising, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia, and served as president from 1963 to 1977, and chairman of the board from 1977 to 1978. He was an advisor to the Jimmy Carter campaigns for Georgia governor in 1966 and 1970, and was media and communications director for the Carter presidential campaigns in 1976 and 1980. In 1978 and 1979 he was Assistant to the President for Communications in the Carter White House. Following the Carter presidency he was the executive producer of several television specials and films. He was president of Rafshoon Communications, 1980 to 1988; president, Rafshoon Productions, 1981 to 1988; president, Consolidated Productions, Washington, 1988 to 1991; and vice-chairman, Consolidated Entertainment, Los Angeles, 1988 to 1991. In 1991 he was also a guest scholar at the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C. Since 1991 he has been president of Gerald Rafshoon Productions.
