Robert F. Ruane was born on April 7, 1919 in the District of Columbia and enlisted in the Army at Fort Meyer, Virginia on December 21, 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, working as a general office clerk and had completed two years of college. Ruane was a member of Company A, and later with the Headquarters Company, of the 2nd Battalion of the 86th Infantry Regiment. He was stationed at both Camp Hale, Colo. and Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. Ruane received the Bronze Star Medal for he service in Italy. He died in October 1972 in Washington, D.C.
