Quincy, Illinois lawyer who served in the state legislature, 1841-1842; was quartermaster at the Alamo in Texas, 1846-1848; and moved to California where he also served in the state legislature. He supervised the work that restored the Alamo to be used for offices of the quartermaster. The long barracks was used as an office for Ralston and his clerk, Sergeant Edward Everett.
