Barberini family.
The Roman family Barberini de Sciara was formed by the union of the Tuscan Barberini and the Roman Colonna de Sciarra, a younger branch of the famous Colonna family. The Barberini became prominent in 1623 when Maffeo Barberini was elected Pope Urban VIII. He gave many princely fiefs and conferred high offices on members of his family. In 1728 Guilio Cesare Colonna de Sciarra, Principe de Carbognana, married Cornelia Barberini, daughter of Urbano, Principe de Palestrina. Their son Carlo assumed the name Barberini di Sciarra-Colonna establishing that line.
