The Bicentenary Publications Project was undertaken by the Commonwealth Parliament as a contribution to the Bicentenary of Australia. The Project was launched in 1981 and involved a program of publications and oral history interviewing. A definitive history of the development of the Parliament of the Commonwealth, written by Gavin Souter, was published in 1988. Three specialised monographs, also commissioned under the Project, were written by David Solomon, Clem Lloyd, Gordon Reid and Martyn Forrest and published between 1986 and 1989. The Project publisher was Melbourne University Press. The oral histories covered former federal parliamentarians and from 1987 were conducted by the Parliament's Oral History Project. The Bicentenary Publications Project was administered for the Parliament by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library.
