Alice Wellman was born on May 11, 1900 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received a B.A. in 1922 from Pomona College and a B.S. in 1923 from Witchita State University. Before becoming a writer, Ms. Wellman was an actress and singer on stage and for Warner Bros. films. She has also been a lecturer at San Diego State University; University of California, Irvine; University of California, Los Angeles and at the University of North Carolina. She is the author of seven children's books. Alice Wellman died on March 12, 1984. Biographical Source: Something About the Author, vol. 51. pp. 195-196.
