Governor Otto Kerner cooperating with the Water Resource Research Act of 1964 (P.L. 88-379) designated this university center as the water resources research institute for the State of Illinois. 3 Beginning with the fiscal year 1968 the Center has received matching water resources research funds. 4
In December 1971, the Center was transferred from the Graduate College to the Institute for Environmental Studies. 5
