Carolyn S. Loeb was born in 1948 in New York City. She earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California-Berkeley (1968), a M.A. in Art History from San Francisco State College (1973), and a Ph.D. in Art History from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (1990). She taught as a Graduate Assistant in 1972 at San Francisco State College, and as an instructor at Erie Community College, Williamsville (N.Y., 1973), the New School for the Performing Artss, Buffalo (N.Y., 1973-1974), Michigan State University (MSU, 1977), Eastern Michigan University (1978), Olivet College (1978-1980), and the Midwest Consortium for Study Abroad in Vienna (1994). In 1980, Loeb came to Central Michigan University as an Instructor. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1990 and to Associate Professor in 2000. In 2007 she left CMU for a position as Associate Professor in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at MSU. Professor Loeb has numerous publications, including Entrepreneurial vernacular: developers' subdivisions in the 1920s. She has made many presentations and served as a guest lecturer and panelist, and has received many grants, awards, and honors. Loeb's husband, Richard T.
