The United States Christian Commission was created in 1861 by the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) for the purpose of bringing supplies and religious comfort to soldiers serving in the Civil War. The USCC delegates served as volunteers on the field, in the hospitals and on the battlefields. Little is known about Fletcher Ward apart from his service for the USCC as a delegate from Albany, New York.
