Peter, Grace Bakke, 1906-

Grace Bakke was born in Sacred Heart, Minnesota on June 16, 1906. She received her R.N. degree from St. Luke's Hospital in St. Paul in 1931. She did private duty and pediatric nursing during the 1930s, and during World War II she practiced industrial nursing and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. Following the war she was on the staff of the Veterans Administration hospital in Minneapolis.

From July 1962 through October 1965 Peter served in the Peace Corps as a staff nurse in the general hospital in Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia. She was in charge of one of the hospital wings, and also assisted with family planning clinics. Following her Peace Corps service she was on staff at the Veterans Administration hospital in Washington, D.C. She was married to Louis G. Peter.
