Clayland Boyden Gray (b. 1943) served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Earl Warren in 1968; was a partner in the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering from 1969 to 1981; served as a counsel and deputy chief of staff to Vice President George H. W. Bush from 1981 to 1985; counsellor to Vice President Bush from 1985 to 1989; and served as Legal Counsel on the Bush Transition Team in 1988. Gray served as Counsel to the President from January 21, 1989 to January 19, 1993.
