Biographical note: George E. P. Smith was born in Lyndonville, VT in 1874 and received a degree from the University of Vermont in civil engineering. He came to Tucson in 1900 and joined the University of Arizona faculty as a professor of civil engineering. He transferred to agricultural engineering in 1906. Professor Smith remained with the University until his retirement in 1955 and published over 100 articles during that time many of which dealt with water concerns and topics.
