Morgan Callaway, Methodist clergyman and educator, was born in Washington, Georgia, 16 September 1831, and died in Oxford, Georgia, 16 January 1899. Callaway was president of Andrew Female College in Cuthbert, Georgia (1858-1862), served in the Confederate Army's Company B, 11th Battalion, Georgia Artillery as a first lieutenant and acting chaplain (1862-1865), became president of LaGrange Female College in LeGrange, Georgia (1869-1871), and was a professor and vice-president of Emory College (1871-1882). He married Eliza Mary "Leila" Hinton (1851) who also taught at Andrew College.
