Other positions included war service in France and with the National War Work Council, and 23 years on the staff of the National Council. After retirement in 1949, Pence represented the World Alliance of the YMCAs at the United Nations.

Other positions included war service in France and with the National War Work Council, and 23 years on the staff of the National Council in the personnel department and later as director of the Bureau of Records, Studies and Trends and editor of the YMCA yearbook. After retirement in 1949, Pence represented the World Alliance of the YMCAs at the United Nations, where he was one of the best known and widely respected representatives of non-governmental organizations.
