Henry Beauchampe Russ was born in Mount Pleasant, New York on September 25th, 1840. He moved to California with his parents, on the ship "Loo Choo", one of Colonel Stevenson's transport ships, landing on March 26th 1847. Mr. Russ received his education in San Francisco, attending the Rincon Point School, Powell High School, and the University of the Pacific at San Jose. After graduating he entered the house of Mebius Duisenberg. Mr. Russ was an active member of The Society of California Pioneers and the Olympic Club. He was Treasurer of the Olympic Club from 1877 on. Henry B. Russ was crested and constituted a Knight of the Red Cross; a Knight Templar; and Knight of Malta in 1889, in California Commandery No. 1.
