Spivak was born in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Charlotte Ring and Lawrence E. Spivak, publisher of the American Mercury and co-producer of Meet the Press. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1947 and took graduate courses in history at Georgetown University. She worked as a reporter for the Washington Post (1948-1950) and as an editorial assistant at the American Mercury magazine (1951-1952). In 1952 she married William Lee Frost, a foreign service officer; they had two children. Returning to the United States in 1959 after postings abroad, she studied at the Bank Street College of Education in order to pursue a teaching career. She died in New York City in 1961.
