Art educator and administrator Nancy Stuart began her career at RIT in 1984 as an assistant professor in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. Prior to coming to RIT she was on the faculty of the Photo Technology Program at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan. She was elected to chair the Applied Photogarphy Department in 1991. She was eventually appointed Associate Dean of the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. She left RIT in 2002 to join the Cleveland Institute of Art as Executive Vice President and Provost. She is now Dean of the Hartford Art School. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is a recipient of the John Kobal prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England for her series of portraits of women exposed to Diethylstilbestrol (DES). Visual Studies Workshop Press published a book of the photographs in 2001: "DES Stories: Faces and Voices of People Exposed to Diethylstilbestrol ."
