The Packard family originated in the Boston, Mass. area, but several members later settled in various parts of Maine, such as Brunswick and Wiscasset. This collection focuses on Rev. Asa Packard (1758-1843) of Lancaster, Mass. and his brother Rev. Hezekiah Packard (1761-1849) of Wiscasset, and includes the letters of Hezekiah's sons Alpheus Spring Packard (1798-1884), professor for sixty-five years at Bowdoin College, and Rev. Charles Packard (1801-1864) of Biddeford, Maine, Charles' wife Rebecca Prentiss Kent (1808-1905), her father William Austin Kent (1765-1840) of Concord, N.H. and various other family members.
