Edwin Gerschefski was a composer, pianist, and teacher. He was born in Meriden, CT on 19 June 1909 and died in Chattanooga, TN on 18 December 1992. His education included study at Yale University (1926-1931) and the Tobias Matthay Pianoforte School in London (1931-1933). He also studied with the renowned pianist Artur Schnabel and the noted music theorist Joseph Schillinger. Gerschefski held the positions of dean of the music school at Converse College (1945-1959), head of the music department at the University of New Mexico (1959-1960), and head of the music department at the University of Georgia (1960-1980).
