Alan Derickson (born Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 1948) holds masters degrees in history (University of Rochester, 1973) and public health (University of California, Berkeley, 1978) and a doctorate in the history of health sciences (University of California, San Francisco, 1986). He joined the Pennsylvania State University as a member of the Department of Labor Studies (1987) and later became professor in the Department of History.

Alan Derickson was professor in the Department of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations at Pennsylvania State University from 1987 to 1999. He then held a joint appointment with the Department of History and published extensively on health issues of miners.
