John Crosby Freeman was a 1964 graduate of the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture. He has held several positions, including director of the Yorker Yankee Village Museum, instructor at the University of Victoria,and editor of the magazine Victorian Homes, for which he also wrote a column called "The Color Doctor," in which he gave advice about appropriate paint colors for older homes. He has helped two paint companies develop color palettes and has served as a consultant on historic paint colors.

John C. Freeman is the Executive Director of the American Life Foundation and editor of Victorian Homes. A 1964 graduate of the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture, he has published on Gustav Stickley, Mission and Art Nouveau furniture, and Victoriana. He and his wife, Judy, co-wrote a book on quilts.
