Robert Jesse Stoller was born Dec. 15, 1924 in Bronxville, NY; BA and MA, psychology, UC Berkeley; became professor of psychiatry at UCLA School of Medicine, 1954; wrote many books, including Sex and gender : on the development of masculinity and femininity (1968), Splitting : a case of female masculinity (1973), and Observing the erotic imagination (1985); co-wrote Cognitive science and psychoanalysis (1988) with K.M. Colby; died in Los Angeles on Sept. 6, 1991.
