Rose Campbell (nee Scott) was the second daughter of John and Hannah Scott and sister of the Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. In 1894, she started her career at Nottingham Hospital, and three years later, took up a post as a nursing sister in the Gold Cost. In 1899, she married Captain Eric Campbell of the Royal Irish Fusiliers and had a daughter, Erica. Her husband died in 1906, leaving her almost penniless, and she went to live with her mother.
