Residents of York County, Pa., and York County, S.C.; Matthew Dickson (b. 1731) immigrated from Ireland, arriving in U.S. in 1762, and served in the cavalry for Revolutionary Army.

Abishai M. Dickson, an Alabama native, joined the Alabama Red Rovers in response to the events of the Texas Revolution, and was killed in the Goliad massacre.
His widow and children moved to Texas to claim land due Dickson for his military service, and settled there.
