Edward Armin Schumann, Philadelphia gynecologist, was born on 9 July 1879. He married Hazel Prince, 1910, and had three sons, including physician Francis Schumann. Schumann died on 18 Oct. 1970.

Edward A. Schumann received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1901, then practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Philadelphia until his death. He was Pathologist at the Gynecean Hospital, Gynecologist at Philadelphia General Hospital, Obstetrician at Chestnut Hill Hospital, and Surgeon-in-Chief at the Kensington Hospital for Women, 1931-1944. In 1929, he joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and became Professor of Obstetrics in 1933. Schumann was a president of the American Gynecological Society and became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1921.
