Born in East Windsor, Conn., Jan 20, 1797; entered a store in New York, 1813 ; established as merchant in Genesco, N.Y., 1817; removed to Lockport, N.Y., 1828 ; was busy with milling; moved to Toledo, Ohio., 1828 ; improved the town; began Erie Kalamazoo R.R. Co., 1836 ; was almost ruined in financial crash, 1837 ; rallied again ; died in Toledo, Nov. 9, 1860. (from Biog. Cyclop. of Ohio, v. 3, p. 656) (Blue index cards)
