William Warren Chapman (1814-1859) was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended West Point. He served in the second Seminole War in Florida, as quartermaster and then commander of Fort Foster.

After the war, he served in Tennessee and New York until 1846, when he became staff assistant quartermaster in the army of General John E. Wool in San Antonio, Texas. He fought in the Battle of Buena Vista (1847). He became quartermaster of the army depot in Matamoros and then Fort Brown and then Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a partnership with Richard King in the acquisition of land for King Ranch. He died in Virginia.
