Francis Ashbury Ireland, son of John P. and Martha M. Ireland, was born in Dexter, Maine, on July 27, 1843. During the Civil War, he was a private in the 22nd Maine Infantry Regiment, serving in Virginia and Louisiana. After the war he was employed by the Pomeroy Woolen Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and later served as a messenger in the Massachusetts Senate for 23 years. Ireland died in Pittsfield on April 28, 1928.
