Howard G. Allaway was Managing Editor of Popular Science Monthly magazine. In June 1953, the magazine sponsored a contest that encouraged readers to send in their best story about "my funniest experience with a Model T." Nearly 3,000 stories were sent in. Selected stories were printed in Popular Science Monthly in the October and November 1953 issues. Each author recieved ten dollars. The grand prize winner was Andrew Piper, a 40-year-old farmer from Caldwell, Idaho. He won a reconditioned 1925 Model T.
