Cleveland Program for Sexual Learning, Inc.

Extension program of the Program for Human Sexual Development at Harvard University. It was organized in the mid-1970s to develop a program to aid parents to discuss sexuality with their children, to produce a movie which would show parents how to discuss sexuality frankly with their children, and to start a community telephone service to answer questions about sexuality.

The Cleveland Program for Sexual Learning was an extension project of the Program for Human Sexual Development (PHSD) at Harvard University. The Cleveland Project was organized to meet three objectives: start a community telephone service to answer people's questions about sexuality; develop a program to aid parents discussing sexuality with their children; and produce a movie which would show parents how to talk frankly with their children about sex. Funded primarily through the Cleveland and Gund Foundations, the organization operated from 1978 through 1983. During this time it conducted research on sexuality resources available in the Cleveland area and surveyed parents' attitudes on sexuality. It developed with Planned Parenthood (which took over the operation of the community telephone sexline), Preterm, WomenSpace, and the Federation for Community Planning.
