The French novelist Jacques de Lacretelle was born on July 14, 1888, in Cormatin, France, and died on Jan. 2, 1985, in Paris. Lacretelle wrote his first novel, LA VIE INQUIÈTE DE JEAN HERMELIN (The Troubled Life of Jean Hermelin), an autobiographical novel of adolescence, in 1914, and it was published in 1920. Later, Lacretelle turned to short fiction and nonfiction, and wrote theater reviews for NOUVELLE REVUE FRANÇAISE. It was for the publication of AMOUR NUPTIALE (A Man's Life) in 1929 that Lacretelle won the Prix du Roman of the French Academy.
