Biochemist, Aboriginal rights activist, dancer, folklorist and writer. As Senior Biochemist at the Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital in Melbourne between 1953-1977 Andrews conducted research into the effects of bromide and lithium in the treatment of mental patients. Andrews joined the Communist Party in 1945 and was active in the struggle for Aboriginal civil rights during the 1950s and 60s. Andrews was involved in the Australian folk revival from the 1950s and was a recognised authority on traditional social dance.
