Actor, director and producer, Edwin T. Emery was the director of the WPA's Federal Theatre Project's Gilbert and Sullivan unit. He began his stage career in 1893 appearing with leading stock companies and working with Maude Adams and E. H. Sothern among others. In his later years he directed Gilbert and Sullivan revivals and was a dramatic coach in his own studios. He died in 1951 at the age of 78.
