Born in Ohio, 1784; Major of Infantry under General Hull, 1813-14 and read a paper on "Hull Campaign", 1819; located at Detroit, 1815; was Secretary of Mich. Territory; U.S. marshal for Detroit distr.; Postmaster of Detroit, 1843-45; Secretary of the State, 1840; U.S. Pension Agent 1824-31; Probate Judge of Wayne Co., 1833-34; ed. of Detroit Journal, 1832-34; pres. of Mich.
