Edward Collingwood was born in Chirton, Northumberland. He was educated at Houghton-le-Spring, and entered Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1752, aged 18. He was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1756.

Henry Hubbard (1708-1778) was born on 5 February 1708, the son of a cabinet-maker. He matriculated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, in 1725 (B.A., 1729; M.A., 1732), and became a Fellow of Emmanuel College in 1732 (B.D., 1739). He was a Cambridge tutor, and Registrary, 1758-1778. Hubbard was ordained deacon in 1730, and priest in 1732. He was Lady Margaret preacher, Cambridge, 1752-1774. He died on 23 January 1778.

Thomas Rutherford (1712-1771) was Regius Professor of Divinity, Cambridge, 1756-1771.
