John Oliver Judson Lewis (b. ca. 1839) was born in North Carolina. He married Sarah J. Lewis [Clewis?] on May 2, 1865 and was a farmer in Thomas County. Lewis enlisted as a private in the 2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade of the Georgia State Troops, Company D, on October 8, 1861. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant of the 57th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company A, on May 5, 1862. He was captured at Baker's Creek, Mississippi on May 16, 1863 and was exchanged on July 4, 1863. Lewis was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in La Grange, Georgia, on June 19, 1864; he was transferred to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia on July 4th of that year.
