Historical NoteThe internal affairs of Whitworth College are managed by the appropriate officials (e.g., vice president, dean, business manager), often with the advice of certain administrative and/or faculty committees. A number of these are listed and their activities described in the folders.

Historical NoteThe Publications Council of Whitworth College is an arm of the Associated Students of Whitworth College. In general, it supervises the student newspaper The Whitworthian, and the annual yearbook Natsihi. The position of editor of the newspaper is particularly important and often surrounded by controversial issues noted here in the various items of correspondence and memoranda. Samples of various student publications are in this file. Copies of the newspaper are in a separate file and the yearbooks are available cataloged in the college library. Student handbooks included in this file were produced both by student organizations and the administration of the college.

Historical Note: ELDERHOSTEL is a nonprofit organization committed to being the preeminent provider of high quality, affordable, educational opportunities for older adults. Whitworth College joined the program in 1989 as an extension of its outreach to adults and as a way to promote the college. Most participants resided in the campus dormitories for a week, involving attendance at three lectures per day devoted to a wide variety of topics of interest to adults. There were two to three sessions per summer. No grades were issued and homework was not required. Evening programs with voluntary attendance were also offered plus ample time for exercise and recreation. The program was discontinued in the year 2000 because most adults preferred the privacy of rooms equipped with private baths. It moved out to Camp Spalding on Davis Lake, 40 miles north of Spokane, Washington, under the sponsorship of the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest.

Historical NoteFrom time to time Whitworth College has had to step back and examine its programs and reasons for existence. Evaluation, an onerous task at best, may happen because of internal financial pressures, or at the instigation of external accreditation bodies. An example of the first instance is the ⁰́₋Redesign⁰́₊ program undertaken by the college under the leadership of Dr. Duncan S. Ferguson. An example of the second is the self-study undertaken for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (N. C. A. T. E.).
