Demarest, David Clarence, 1866-1962.
Foundry owner, Altaville, Calaveras County, Calif. Associated with D.D. Demarest Mining Machinery Company, San Francisco. His father, D.D. Demarest came to California via Gila Trail (1849). Family-run iron works first cast pump parts, stove grates and similar objects, but later turned to more sophisticated mining machinery. David C. Demarest penned a three volume history of Altaville, Angels Camp and surrounding area. Work includes his father's overland diary (1849) and contains biographies of pioneers and leaders, as well as 126 captioned photographs.
