Charles Gentile began work at the Briggs Manufacturing Company in 1931 and joined the Society of Designing Engineers (S.D.E.) in 1932. In later years he held numerous union posts in UAW Local 212, the S.D.E. in the Briggs Manufacturing Company. He served on the Executive Board of Local 212, for several terms, and was a member of the Finance Committee for six years, and for twelve years was an elected trustee of Local 212.
