Born December 1, 1913, Edward W. Schneider was a native of Chicago. He graduated from Loyola University in 1936 where he was a star athlete and president of the Monogram Club. Schneider served as the Sports Publicity Director at Loyola from 1934 to 1942 and again from 1959 to 1960. In 1944 he joined the Chicago Tribune sports desck as copy editor and reporter. Later he served as the assistant Sunday sports editor at Chicago's American newspaper. As a reporter Schneider covered a variety of sports including baseball, football, boxing, and basketball. He served as the secretary-treasurer for the United States Basketball Writers Association from 1956 to 1969 and as director of the American Bowling WRiters Association. Schneider passed away on February 5, 1991, at the age of 77.
