Andrew Gregg (1755-1835), born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, served in the United States Congress as a Representative and Senator from 1807 to 1813, presiding as the president pro tempore in the Senate during the 11th Congress. He served as the Secretary of State of Pennsylvania from 1820 to 1823. In 1814, he relocated to Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania, and joined the banking profession, staging an unsuccessful bid for the governorship in 1823. Andrew Gregg was the grandfather of James Xavier McLanahan and Andrew Gregg Curtin, Governor of Pennsylvania from 1807-1813. Senator Gregg died in May 1835 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and was interred there in the Union Cemetery.
